Transformation, memory and awareness

The Shadow Line was born at a moment of personal and artistic transition. Inspired by Joseph Conrad’s novel of the same name, it explores the threshold at which we stop being spectators and begin to take responsibility for our own journey.

The shadow line separates enthusiasm from awareness, what we are from what we have not yet become. Crossing it means accepting change and allowing ourselves to be transformed.

The decision to involve younger musicians is deliberate. The themes of growth and transformation acquire a particular depth through the encounter between different generations, bringing together experience, energy and distinct musical sensibilities.

After two albums centred on travel and encounters with other cultures, Gianni Denitto turns his attention towards a more intimate territory. Music becomes an inner journey shaped through composition, improvisation and timbral research. The acoustic setting places sound at the centre, entrusting the narrative to the interaction between the musicians.

Released by Isulafactory and selected among the 100 best albums of 2024 in the Jazzit Awards, The Shadow Line was later expanded with three electronic reinterpretations developed from the earliest solo recordings.
