MARCELLO ROLFF

Pianoforte

Marcello Rolff, Italian pianist, was born in Genoa on August 31, 2005, and is emerging as one of the most interesting and distinctive young talents of his generation. He approached the world of music at a very young age, revealing a remarkable artistic sensibility and aptitude.

He began studying piano at the age of 15 under the guidance of Maestro Andrea Visconti. He is currently a student of Maestro Enrico Stellini at the Conservatory “N. Paganini” in Genoa and of Maestro Vincenzo Balzani within the framework of the “PianoFriends” Association in Milan. Since 2023, he has also been studying at the Accademia del Ridotto in Stradella.

Rolff has refined his artistry through masterclasses with renowned pianists, including Giuseppe Andaloro, Yuri Bogdanov, Pierluigi Camicia, and Boaz Sharon.

In August 2023, he was selected by the Busoni-Mahler Association in Bolzano to take part in the world premiere of the opera 11000 Saiten by G. F. Haas at the Bolzano Fair.

In 2024, alongside studying works by other composers, he devoted himself to creating a program entirely dedicated to selected works by Ferruccio Busoni, in honor of the centenary of the composer’s death. He has received awards in several competitions and performed at nationally significant festivals.

Marcello Rolff presented the concert project Homage to Ferruccio Busoni in 2024, conceived on the occasion of the centenary of the great Italian-German composer’s death. The program, entirely dedicated to Busoni, was built on a balanced structure featuring original piano works alongside Busoni’s celebrated Bach transcriptions, offering a comprehensive view of the composer’s artistic universe. The project was born from an in-depth process of study and interpretative research aimed at highlighting the richness of Busoni’s pianistic writing and musical thought. Through this monographic journey, Rolff sought to emphasize the continuing relevance of Busoni’s language and its influence on twentieth-century piano literature. The project was presented in notable concert settings, attracting significant interest from audiences and professionals alike.

MARCELLO ROLFF R. Schumann “Faschingsschwank aus Wien” op.26 I. Allegro

These recordings were made at the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague during an important phase of Marcello Rolff’s artistic development. Produced within the stimulating environment of one of Europe’s leading musical institutions, they document a moment of focused technical refinement and deepening interpretative research.
The sessions feature Robert Schumann’s Faschingsschwank aus Wien, Op. 26, a work that highlights both virtuosity and poetic imagination.
The repertoire reflects Rolff’s ongoing exploration of the Romantic pianistic tradition, with particular attention to sound quality, structural clarity, and expressive depth.
Captured in a professional academic setting, these recordings present an authentic snapshot of his evolving musical voice and artistic identity.
